As the end of the school year is approaching, many international students in China begin planning their career path in hopes of a brighter future in the country. In addition to applying for jobs online, attending a job fair is also an option to find a career match for international students.
Here's your guide to succeed at a job fair in China:
1
Business Seminar Job Fair
At a typical business seminar job fair, each company will hold a separate job fair (similar to an info session) and share with attendees the company culture and available positions. Its highly likely that you will pass the resume review process at a business seminar job fair.
1
Do thorough research about the company by checking their website or other online resources to get a preview of what their company culture looks like. Your research results will be useful to interact with company HRs.
2
Ask or answer questions when you arrive and try to get more interaction with the HR team or managers. Interactions with employers at the job fair should be friendly and conversational, and it's very important to prepare a list of questions ahead of time that can be asked to avoid awkward moments during the conversation.
3
Make sure to prepare enough copies of your resume and politely ask companies if they mind you leaving a copy of your resume at the table before you leave. Remember to bring a folder with you in case a lot of company flyers, brochures, or other materials will be handed to you. After all, you want to look professional at the fair.
4
In your conversations, make sure to also understand the best way to apply for your desired position. Most of the time you will be told to apply for the job on their website.

University Job Fair
This kind of job fair usually has a lot of companies from different industries.
1
Dress properly, or at least business casual. Remember your target companies (do your research in advance). Bring as many resumes as you can and collect companies' marketing materials (placed in a folder). The fair might get very crowded, so make sure to ask for a map of the venue if you can. Otherwise, you will get lost at the fair and miss some opportunities to talk to your dream companies.
2
Be on time and get yourself familiar with the venue. Walk around and find your target companies first to see if there's a long line. Prioritize the company that has a long line so you wont miss it.
3
Some companies will have face-to-face interviews at the job fair. Come up with a list of questions. Please prepare a short introduction of yourself and be confident in front of HR reps.
