Per Ms. Li, in the middle of October, when she was talking with her English teacher in a class, the foreign teacher lost his temper and scolded her.
Ms. Li said: "He was talking fast and impatiently, but I was a little absent-minded at that time, as well as a little afraid that I couldn't understand, so I didn't listen very well. He repeated the answer a few times..."
"Then he scolded me in English saying theres something wrong with my brain and I should go see a doctor."
In a fit of anger, Ms. Li, went to the head of the school to ask for a refund with a refund application in hand.
However, after spending a couple days waiting in vain, Ms. Li was told by the head of the school that her money could not be returned, as the investor of institution was no longer the previous one. They told her, "the investor took over the whole class hours of the students left behind, but did not accept the obligations of the refund."
Mr. Zhang, the school head explained that in early October, WEBi English suffered a business failure, which had already impacted its branches across the country. Schools were closed in Beijing and Chengdu successively, and the four schools in Dalian were also affected, but luckily got taken over by a new investor.
"We don't have any legal or other relationship with the former Dalian WEBi English. We are a new company," Zhang explained. He also presented the takeover agreement where it stipulates that Party B (the new school) shall not be responsible for the refund of students' fees, and Party A shall be responsible for it.
"We have received more than 1400 former students and covered over 25000 class hours for free, with a total value of more than 21 million Yuan." Zhang said, "I would like to make a statement that if these students are willing to finish their courses, we will allow them to do so, completely free of charge.
There is no other extra charges. But the students want to get a refund, they should go to the original responsible subject, the former WEBi English."
In addition, per Zhang, when they took over the four schools in Dalian, they took over 70% of the teaching staff at the same time.
In view of the situation that Ms. Li has been abused by her foreign teacher, Zhang said that they had dismissed the teacher. Instead of a refund, they offered Ms. Li another solution, which was, her boyfriend who used to learn English from the school could attend the class with her at the same time.
