520 - valentines day

1

The 20th of May is an internet valentines day for young people. It all began with a song by a Taiwanese singer Xiaoxuan Fan, there is a line in this song 520 which means 520 is I love you because the pronunciation of 520( wu er ling) sounds like I love u(wo ai ni) in Chinese. And the 20th of May in Chinese is 5yue 20hao(the 20th day of the fifth month). Thats why people celebrate this day as valentines day.

As the name suggests, singles day is for single people to celebrate their single life. But as a matter of fact, singles day began in the universities when some single dudes joked about being single and lonely. And they chose the day 11th of November because its the 11th day of the 11th month, and there are four 1s in this day, which means being alone and single.

As more and more people joined the celebration of singles day, a lot of business man saw the opportunity to benefit from it, so they held blind dates parties and promoted their dating apps and websites. One of them was Jack Ma who decided to have a big sale on this day on Taobao and Tmall shopping website which turned this festival into a crazy E-commercial festival.
