Sexual Harassment at University Gets Exchange Student Deported

On August 1, the Hanshan branch of the Handan Municipal Public Security Bureau issued this warning following a disturbing event involving an international student and a local classmate.

As the real identity of the exchange student has not been made public by the authorities, we will call him Tao. Around 7 PM on July 31, a local student named Wang reported that Tao had sexually harassed and molested her in the corridor near the computer room at the Hebei University of Technology.

Tao was expelled immediately from the university and detained for 10 days at the Hanshan police station before being deported.

With the cooperation of the foreign affairs department and translators, authorities inquired about the two students involved in the case and found that at 5:30 PM the same day, Tao had taken advantage of the opportunity to take several photos with Wing in the corridor before moving forward with his unlawful intentions.

According to Article 44 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on public security punishment, Tao faced 10 days of detention and immediate deportation back to his home country.

The Hebei University of Technology also issued a notice on Monday afternoon to inform its students of the situation as well as remind them of the severity of such acts, and that consequences will be had for such behaviors.
