Blue Typhoon Warning
The Shanghai Meteorological Service issued a blue typhoon warning at 7pm yesterday, August 26, forecasting gale-force gusts of around 72–80 km/h across most of the city, with winds potentially reaching 88–96 km/h around high-rise buildings and along riverfront and coastal areas.
A Level IV emergency response for typhoon and flood prevention has also been activated.

According to forecasts, Shanghai will experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms over the next couple of days, with locally heavy rain possible.
The strongest wind and rain impacts are expected to ease from the evening of Friday, August 28, into the early hours of Saturday, August 29.
Saudel's Path
Current projected path and rainfall
As of 10am Thursday, Saudel's center was about 330 kilometers east of Wenling, Zhejiang Province, and 405 kilometers south of Jinshan, Shanghai's southernmost point.
Still at typhoon strength, with gale-force winds extending 350 to 400 kilometers from its center, Saudel is tracking west-southwest at about 10 kilometers per hour, with little change in strength expected before landfall.
Landfall is forecast for the early hours to midday tomorrow, August 28, along the coast between Sanmen, Zhejiang Province, and Xiapu, Fujian Province, at typhoon to severe typhoon strength.
If the storm comes ashore on the Zhejiang side, it would tie the province's record of three typhoon landfalls in a single year, last set in 2004.

Residents are advised to:
Stay away from billboards, large trees, and temporary structures, which could be blown down.
Close windows and secure balcony furniture and other loose outdoor items, particularly in high-rise buildings.
Avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding and underground spaces during periods of heavy rain.
Take extra care when commuting, especially near construction sites and other exposed areas.
Expect possible disruptions to road traffic, outdoor work, and other activities.

Additional Warnings
On Thursday afternoon, the Shanghai Hydrological Station issued a blue alert for high tide on the Huangpu River, forecasting a peak tide of approximately 4.85 meters at the Suzhou Creek mouth at 12.40am on August 28, due to the combined effects of Saudel and astronomical spring tides.
The Shanghai Marine Monitoring and Forecasting Center also issued an orange alert for storm surge and an orange alert for ocean waves.
Storm surge increases of 60–100 cm are expected along the coast, while waves in the East China Sea could reach 3.5–5.2 meters.
Transport disruptions
China Railway Shanghai Group has suspended some services on the Hangzhou-Wenzhou, Hangzhou-Taizhou, Jinhua-Wenzhou, Jintai, and Yongjin lines for Thursday and Friday, and the Hangzhou-Shenzhen line from Thursday to Saturday, with further adjustments possible depending on the storm's path.
Ticket holders can get fee-free refunds through 12306 or at stations up to 30 days after their travel date.
Shanghai's passenger ferry company said all its routes except the Changheng cross-river ferry would suspend service from Thursday morning.

From 27–30 August, the storm is forecast to bring heavy or extremely heavy rainfall to parts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Yunnan.
Some areas could receive 20–40 cm of accumulated rainfall, while isolated areas could exceed 50 cm.
For Shanghai residents, the biggest concerns over the next two days are strong winds, sudden heavy downpours, possible flooding, and disruptions to travel.
Stay alert, secure loose objects before the winds strengthen, and check weather and transport updates before heading out.
A second round of rain is expected from Monday, August 31, to Wednesday, September 2, as cold and warm air masses collide, bringing cooler temperatures—timing that coincides with the start of the school term, with residents advised to keep an eye on the latest forecasts.
