我的妈呀 (Wǒ de mā ya) - oh my!
Half of August already gone!
With Chinese Summer Camp keeping us on our toes, July seems to have disappeared in a flash.
But looking back, there was so much going on across our campuses — from welcoming new students and saying goodbye to graduates, to fruit shopping, family games, and, of course, a lot of mahjong.
A Warm
你好 Nihao 👋
As always, the new month brought a fresh batch of Intensive Program students to our campuses.
Their July adventure started with an opening ceremony and orientation - a chance to meet their teachers and classmates, get acquainted with the school, and find out what was in store for the weeks ahead.
Time to
Celebrate 🎓
While a new group was just beginning, our graduating Intensive Program students were getting ready to move on to their next adventure.
After weeks of classes, conversations, challenges, and plenty of Chinese, it was time to celebrate everything they had accomplished.
Congratulations, dear 毕业生 (bìyèshēng) 🎓🎉
Buying Fruit...
in Chinese
Sometimes, the best place to practice Chinese isn't a classroom!
For our Friday real-world practice, students headed to a fruit shop and put their language skills to work.
They came. They bargained. They succeeded 😎
A very practical Chinese lesson - with tasty rewards at the end 🥭
Potluck in Chengdu
Our Chengdu students also had a chance to swap textbooks for plates at a friendly potluck gathering.
Everyone brought something to share, creating a table full of different flavors and plenty of conversation. It's hard to think of a better way to spend time together than good food and good company!
Singing Songs
in Chinese
In Shanghai, class breaks also got a musical twist.
Instead of simply grabbing a coffee or chatting in the lobby, students got together to 唱中文歌 (chàng Zhōngwén gē) 🎤
A little singing, a little pronunciation practice, and a lot of fun.
Pretty good use of a break if you ask us 🎶
Mahjong Nights
Of course, there's never enough 麻将 (májiàng)!
This month, students in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu got together, bringing the familiar sounds of 吃 (chī) and 碰 (pèng) to our campuses.
Whether they knew exactly what they were doing or were still figuring out which tile to play, everyone was welcome at the table.
And, as we've learned before,
sometimes the best strategy is simply… luck ✨
Family Day
in Chengdu
And finally, Chengdu welcomed students and their families for an afternoon of games.
Parents and children teamed up for Chinese language games, tested their skills with childhood favorites, and had plenty of fun together.
A little competition - and lots of smiles - made this one a special family day 💛
July may have flown by, but it certainly kept us busy.
From the classroom to the fruit shop, from mahjong tables to family game time, there was always another reason to put Chinese into practice—and another memory to take home.
See you next month ☀️
