Shanghai just issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for the city center, effective from 12:52 PM today through the next 12 hours. The alert covers most of the central districts and warns of potential lightning hazards.
According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, the city is under the influence of a low-pressure system, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
While most areas saw cloudy skies this morning, rainfall will intensify this afternoon through the evening. Southern and central parts of the city could see localized downpours — some areas may receive up to 50 mm of rain.
Chongming District upgraded its blue rain alert to yellow at 9 AM, warning of up to 60 mm of rain per hour in some western and central towns.

By Sunday, the low-pressure system will move offshore, and the rain will ease. Temperatures will hover between 26°C and 30°C.
Next week, the subtropical high will strengthen, bringing mostly cloudy skies with a chance of afternoon thundershowers. Extreme heat won't return just yet — highs will stay around 33°C.
