Thai authorities have permanently banned a Chinese tourist from entering Thailand again after he allegedly damaged automated immigration gates at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The incident reportedly happened while the 30-year-old man was trying to pass through an automated passport control checkpoint before flying back to China. After several unsuccessful attempts to use the system, he allegedly became angry and started hitting and kicking the gate barriers.

Airport security footage reportedly showed the man slamming his travel documents on the scanner, kicking the auto-gates, and forcing his way through the checkpoint without authorization.

Thai immigration officers quickly intervened and detained him. Authorities also accused him of verbally insulting officials and behaving aggressively toward airport staff.

Officials estimated the damage to two automated immigration gates at around 480,000 baht, approximately US$15,000.

The tourist now faces legal charges, including damaging government property, insulting officials, and illegally passing through immigration control.

Thai authorities confirmed that his visa was revoked and that he was placed on the country’s immigration blacklist, meaning he will be banned from Thailand for life after legal procedures are completed.

The case has drawn public attention as Thailand continues to take a tougher stance on disruptive tourist behaviour.

Officials stressed that while foreign visitors are welcome, they are expected to respect local laws, airport procedures, and public officials.
