A man sparked panic at a China-bound flight after shouting, "I'll bomb the airport!" and was taken away by airport police for questioning.
At around 2 a.m. on October 20, a man in Kunming, Yunnan Province, was taken away by airport police for making an inappropriate remark about "bombing the airport" while waiting to board his flight. The authorities later confirmed that he was subjected to criticism and education.
A video circulating online shows airport police approaching the boarding gate, speaking briefly with a male passenger, and then escorting him away from the area.
According to Ms. Gao, a passenger who witnessed the incident around 5 p.m. that day, the man's outburst appeared to be related to frustration over a lengthy flight delay.
Ms. Gao said she and the man were both passengers on flight DR5038. Information from the travel platform VariFlight shows that the flight had been diverted to Kunming on October 19 and was delayed by nearly eight hours before arriving at its destination.
Ms. Gao recalled that the passenger was speaking with airline staff while making a loud phone call, seemingly to file a complaint. During the call, he allegedly said, "I'll bomb the airport."
Staff from the Changshui Airport Police Station confirmed that a passenger from the flight had indeed been taken away for criticism and education. The man was later allowed to return and board the flight before its final departure.
