You Will Receive October Salary in This September IF

As China's final long holiday of the year approaches, many employees can expect to receive their October salaries early—thanks to labor regulations tied to the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, which this year form an extended 8-day break from October 1 to 8, 2025.

Who Gets Paid Early?

According to China's 2025 public holiday schedule, the break will run from Wednesday, October 1 through Wednesday, October 8, with make-up workdays on Sunday, September 28 and Saturday, October 11.

Under Article 7 of the Interim Provisions on Wage Payment, if the designated payday falls on a holiday or rest day, employers are required to pay wages in advance on the nearest working day before the holiday. This means that if your company typically pays salaries between October 1–8, you should receive your pay in late September.

What About Overtime Pay?

Holiday shifts can bring extra income, but also come with legal obligations for employers. As outlined in Article 13 of the same wage regulation, overtime during holidays is compensated as follows:

  • 150% pay for overtime on regular workdays beyond standard hours.

  • 200% pay for working on rest days when no compensatory time off is arranged.

  • 300% pay for labor on legal public holidays (like National Day or Mid-Autumn Festival).

For employees paid by the piece, similar rules apply. Once they meet their quota, additional work beyond legal hours must also be compensated at 150%–300% of their unit wage rate, depending on the day worked.

Employees under flexible or irregular working hour systems may not be covered by these overtime provisions unless otherwise approved by labor authorities.
