The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) issued a Typhoon Yellow Alert and a Rainstorm Orange Alert at 06:00 on July 30.

Typhoon Yellow Alert

Typhoon "CO-MAY", the 8th typhoon of the year and currently classified as a tropical storm, made landfall near Zhujiajian Island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province at approximately 4:30 a.m. today (July 30).

At the time of landfall, maximum sustained winds near the center reached Force 9 (23 m/s), with a central pressure of 975 hPa. By 5:00 a.m., CO-MAY was located offshore near Zhoushan, at latitude 29.8°N and longitude 122.2°E. Winds near the center remained at Force 9 (23 m/s), with a central pressure of 975 hPa. The radius of Force 7 winds extended 100–300 kilometers.

CO-MAY is expected to move in a northwesterly direction at a speed of 10–15 km/h, with a slight intensification. It is forecast to make a second landfall during the day between Ningbo in Zhejiang and Qidong in Jiangsu, reaching wind speeds of 23–28 m/s (Force 9–10), possibly strengthening to a strong tropical storm. After landfall, the storm is expected to gradually weaken.

Wind Forecast (08:00 July 30 – 08:00 July 31)

Strong winds of Force 6–8, gusting to Force 9–10, are expected in the central and southern Yellow Sea, most of the East China Sea, northern Taiwan Strait, coastal areas of Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang, and Fujian, as well as the Yangtze River Estuary. Areas near the typhoon's path may experience winds of Force 9–10 with gusts up to Force 11–12. Southeastern Jiangsu, northeastern Zhejiang, and Shanghai will also experience winds of Force 5–7, with gusts up to Force 8–9.

Rainstorm Orange Alert (08:00 July 30 – 08:00 July 31)

From 08:00 on July 30 to 08:00 on July 31, heavy to torrential rain is forecast across parts of southern and central Jiangsu, Shanghai, northern and central Zhejiang, eastern Anhui, central and southern Guangdong, central Guangxi, central and southern Yunnan, Taiwan Island, and parts of eastern Heilongjiang and northeastern Liaoning.

Specifically, southeastern Jiangsu, northern and central Shanghai, northern Zhejiang, and southern Taiwan are expected to experience severe rainstorms, with localized extremely heavy rainfall reaching 250–320 mm.

Some of these regions will also face short-duration intense rainfall (20–50 mm per hour, locally exceeding 70 mm), accompanied by severe convective weather including thunderstorms and strong winds.
