The footage revealed a segment of the transparent glass floor exhibiting dense cracks, with the city skyline visible in the background. The video's creator can be heard recounting the frightening moment: "My foot was just here when it cracked — the sound scared me to death."
The video quickly drew attention, with many users sharing photos from their own visits atop the famous tower, where they had once stood on the same glass panels.
Although the original poster has not responded to media inquiries, the damaged area is suspected to be part of the tower's signature attraction — the 360-degree All-Transparent Suspended Observation Corridor. According to the Oriental Pearl Tower's official description, this walkway is the world's only fully transparent glass corridor that wraps around a sphere structure.
In a past statement from 2018, the tower's WeChat page explained that the corridor is made of five layers of tempered glass, bonded with U.S.-imported DuPont adhesive, claiming a strength "100 times higher than ordinary tempered glass." It also stated that each square meter can bear 800 kilograms — well above international standards.
Responding to inquiries on June 26, a spokesperson from the Oriental Pearl Broadcasting and Television Tower confirmed by phone: "We have handled it immediately. It is completely safe now." No additional details were provided.
