Starting June 15, Beijing's urban rail transit system has expanded its contactless payment options to include JCB cards issued overseas and American Express cards issued both domestically and internationally.

The update allows passengers to use these cards for seamless tap-and-go entry and ticket purchases across the entire network.

This marks another major upgrade in Beijing's efforts to enhance payment convenience for both domestic and international travelers. It follows the city's 2024 rollout of support for Mastercard and Visa in September. With this latest addition, Beijing becomes the first city in the world to offer comprehensive urban rail coverage for all five major global card networks: China UnionPay, Mastercard, Visa, JCB, and American Express.

The service upgrade spans the entire subway system, covering 29 operational lines — including the two airport lines, the Xijiao (Western Suburban) Line, and the Yizhuang T1 Line — as well as 523 stations and the S2 suburban railway line. All gates across the network now support contactless card access at all times.

Passengers can simply tap their supported card at the gate's sensor area to enter or exit the system, eliminating the need for advance ticket purchases or mobile app downloads. This instant and convenient process aims to improve the travel experience for the growing number of international visitors to Beijing.
