A 5-year-old Vietnamese girl who entered China alone through the Dongxing Port on June 3 was safely reunited with her family after immigration officers launched a cross-border search.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. during peak arrival hours at the border checkpoint. Officers on patrol noticed the visibly distressed child wandering near the gates unaccompanied. Despite multiple public announcements, no one came forward to claim her.
Authorities brought the girl to a rest area, offering snacks and toys to calm her. The child, who could only provide her parents' names but no contact details, had apparently become separated from her family in the crowd while crossing from Vietnam.
After reviewing surveillance footage, officers activated a transnational coordination mechanism with Vietnamese authorities. Investigations revealed the girl's mother operated a beverage stall at the Mang Street Port in Vietnam. Within minutes of the alert, Vietnamese police located the mother, who had been unaware of her daughter's disappearance amid her busy work.
The reunion took place under the supervision of law enforcement from both countries.
Chinese immigration officials urged parents to prevent minors from traveling alone and advised carrying emergency contact cards for children to expedite reunification in case of separation.
