The National Meteorological Center (NMC) renewed a yellow rainstorm alert at 6:00 a.m. on May 28, warning of heavy to torrential rains across vast stretches of southern China over the next 24 hours.
From 8:00 a.m. May 28 to 8:00 a.m. May 29, regions including central and southern Jiangnan, southern Southwest China, most of South China, and the majority of Taiwan Island are expected to experience heavy rainfall (50-100 mm), with some areas facing torrential downpours (100-200 mm). The hardest-hit zones include:
Central Jiangxi
Western and southeastern Fujian
Eastern Guangxi
Western and southern coastal Guangdong
Central and northern Taiwan Island
Short-duration heavy rainfall (30-50 mm per hour, locally exceeding 60 mm) may trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas. Additionally, thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast in some localities, posing risks of disruptive weather conditions.
Authorities advise residents in affected regions to stay alert for potential flooding, landslides, and urban waterlogging, while avoiding outdoor activities during severe weather. Transportation and emergency services remain on standby for rapid response.
