Local authorities later confirmed that one of the women featured was the man's ex-wife. The trio had posed for wedding photos together "just for fun," and there was never an actual  three-person wedding. The man was reportedly counseled by local police following the incident.

Subsequently, the originally planned April 19 wedding ceremony has been officially canceled. The groom will now proceed with a traditional marriage ceremony involving only his current fiancée. Police also stated that the act of taking such photos does not constitute a violation of the law.

On April 17, Century Jiayuan Banquet Center, where the wedding was initially scheduled, issued a public statement confirming the cancellation of the event booking.

A large number of netizens questioned the stunt, commenting, "How is this even something to joke about?" and "This crossed the line of basic decency." Meanwhile, others were more indifferent, "It's their life, let them do whatever they want."
