Chengdu Firm Offers ¥200K Weight Loss Bonus

A company in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has rolled out a long-term incentive program offering cash bonuses to encourage overweight employees to lose weight. So far, the initiative has paid out nearly 200,000 yuan (about $27,380), according to a report by Jiupai News.

The program is open only to employees classified as overweight based on their Body Mass Index (BMI). Participants agree on personalized weight loss goals through signed contracts with the company. The reward amount depends on how challenging the goal is, with top bonuses reaching several thousand yuan. However, if an employee regains the lost weight within a set period, the bonus must be repaid.

A company staff member shared that promoting employee health has always been a priority. In addition to the weight loss scheme, the company also offers fitness-related bonuses. These are available to all employees, regardless of their weight, and are tied to individual exercise targets.

Despite the difficulty of meeting the program's goals and its relatively low success rate, the company stated it is committed to refining the initiative to better support healthy lifestyles among its workforce.
