Zaozhuang city resembling Manhattan skyline goes viral

A scenic spot in Zaozhuang city, East China's Shandong Province, has been dubbed the"Zaozhuang version of Manhattan" due to its resemblance to New York City's iconic Manhattan skyline, attracting numerous local residents and tourists nearby to visit the city.

This Manhattan-like landmark, featuring two 150-meter-high skyscrapers at the downtown, is located near Zaozhuang's municipal square. Its futuristic geometric architecture and urban landscape bear some resemblance to the metropolitan character of the well-known Manhattan of New York City, the cultural and tourism bureau of Zaozhuang said on its Wechat account.

Many visitors have made special trips to check the site, with video clips featuring the site gaining massive popularity online, Shangyou News reported.

The attraction has rapidly become a hotspot in Zaozhuang, particularly on weekends when families flock to the municipal square to take photos. And, young couples are fond of staging marriage proposals at the site, according to the report.

An official from Zaozhuang's cultural and tourism bureau said that this internet-famous destination began trending about two weeks ago. It was initially discovered by local influencers, and later gained traction through going viral on social media, with enthusiastic netizens sharing photography tips, the official said. The bureau has installed informational signage detailing guidance for photography and recommended optimal shooting angles to enhancevisitor experience.
