A customer from Zhejiang Province has expressed her desire for a refund and a public apology after purchasing a poodle for 18,888 yuan ($2,654), only to find that the dog had been subjected to cosmetic alterations. Cai, a resident of Jiaxing city, bought the animal from a kennel with an online following of 5 million, but was dismayed to discover that the poodle's ears had been cropped and its eyes lined with eyeliner, resulting in scabbing and scars.
Cai's allegations of the seller's lack of transparency have been met with a defense from the seller, who stated, "The customer didn't ask, so I didn't say." The seller claimed that the makeup was applied to enhance the dog's appearance for photographs, and that the ear cropping was a fashionable style referred to as "Mickey ears." However, Cai felt deceived, as she was not informed about these modifications prior to her purchase.
Despite the seller's policy which states, "Buyers cannot return or exchange for any reason," the seller has agreed to let Cai keep the dog without returning it. The incident has sparked a debate on the ethics of pet alteration for aesthetic purposes and the need for clearer communication and transparency in pet sales
