HOW TO IDENTIFY THE BEST SILK SHEETS

Momme is an important determinant in the quality of silk sheets.

Momme (pronounced "mommy") isn't about thread count,  it's a unit that measures the weight and density of silk fibers. Think of it like silk's "thickness gauge." The higher the momme, the denser and more substantial the fabric feels.

Why Momme Matters:

  • Durability and Luxury:  Higher momme sheets tend to be more durable, lasting longer and offering a richer, more luxurious feel.

  • Breathability and Temperature Regulation:  Momme also impacts breathability. Denser fabrics (higher momme) can still be surprisingly breathable, helping you stay cool in summer and warm in winter.

Finding the Sweet Spot:
The ideal momme range for silk sheets is typically between 19-25. This sweet spot balances luxurious softness with durability, ensuring a comfortable and long-lasting sleep experience.

Silk isn't just about softness, it's about quality too.  Grading helps identify the finest fibers.  The journey begins with letters, with "A" signifying the longest strands, minimal imperfections, and a stunning ivory sheen.

But the story doesn't end there. Numbers within each letter grade further refine the silk's quality.  The coveted "6" signifies the highest tier.  So, when you see "6A" silk, you're looking at the absolute best - a luxurious combination of strength, beauty, and unmatched comfort.

Silk sheets come in various weaves and constructions, influencing both look and feel. Mulberry silk, a top choice, boasts a more consistent weave thanks to the caterpillars' exclusive mulberry leaf diet. This translates to smoother sheets.
