Training Center Punished for Starting Classes During Coronavirus

On March 9, 2020, a 26-year-old man named Lu from Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, was caught on the spot conducting an off-line training activity to students in a rented house in Wuxi and then was given an administrative punishment by the police. The news soon aroused heated discussion among netizens.

Knowingly Violated the Law

As per the news staff, that day the police of Xizhang station received a report saying that an off-campus training organization in a rental house in the Tianhe Jiayu Community had begun conducting training activities. Thus, teaming up with the relevant government staff, the police rushed to the site and found Lu and the other four primary school students there.

The police immediately stopped the class and informed the parents of the students to pick them up.

It turned out that since March 7, Lu, knowing full well the decision of the Wuxi Municipal People's Government that the off-line training institutions have temporarily stopped to reduce the gathering of people so as to implement the second-level response measures for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, still chose to carry on his business for money.

In accordance with Article 50 of the People's Republic of China Public Security Management Punishment Law - Those who refusing to implement the decisions and orders issued by the government according to law in case of emergency, the public security organ shall give he/she a warning or a fine of not more than 200 Yuan; if the circumstances are serious, it shall be detained for not less than 5 days but not more than 10 days, and may also be fined not more than 500 Yuan. Per the law, Lu will be given an administrative penalty.
