On His Last Day, Expat Has Visa Extended Without Documents!

On February 18, according to the Shanghai Pudong Exit-Entry Administration Bureau, they helped a 28-year-old Pakistani extended his visa on the last day of validity. In his situation, some of the regular must-have material and procedure wasn't finished, but was exempted due to the special epidemic situation!

Special Handling for a Special Case

Per the exit and entry police, that day after reviewing the man's materials, they found out that he did not apply for the Registration Form of Temporary Residence, nor change the registration items of the residence permit as required after changing his passport, which was illegal and led to his inability to extend his visa.

In a great deal of anxiety, the man explained that he had returned to Shanghai for home quarantine after a business trip some time ago.

After the isolation, the HRD of his company had stayed out of work due to the epidemic, so he could not get the certification materials, which continued to the last day of his visa validity.

After verification, the police confirmed that what he said was true. Thus, they decided to help him complete the application process in a special way. The police guided the man to apply for accommodation registration online, and contacted the relevant police station for review. At the same time, they asked for instructions from their superiors to not punish the man for minor illegal acts caused by the epidemic and obtained approval. Eventually, the man completed the visa extension application on the same day.

Exit-Entry Green Channels & Hotlines for Expats

In addition to Shanghai, Exit-Entry Administration Bureaus in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shenyang, Chengdu, and Shandong have also set up green channels and hotlines for the expats to better handle their visas. According to the regulation of NIA, in the case where expats are unable to exit or extend their visas / residence permits due to the epidemic, the overdue residence shall be given a mitigated or no punishment according to law depending upon actual situation.
