DeepSeek Enters Local Governance :Revolutionize CN's Environments

Local governments in China are increasingly adopting DeepSeek's AI models to enhance administration and governance, reflecting the growing integration of AI in public management. The Longgang district in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, has become the first Chinese district to widely implement DeepSeek's low-cost, high-performance reasoning model, aiming to improve the governance of its 4 million residents.

Since its deployment on February 8, DeepSeek's R1 model has significantly boosted governance efficiency. The Longgang government worked overtime to deploy the model on Huawei's Ascend servers, as reported by the Southern Metropolis Daily. Officials have "boldly" fed government data into the model, streamlining processes and improving decision-making.

One notable application is an AI assistant for word processing, which has drastically reduced the time required for drafting and proofreading documents. Traditionally, proofreading 1,000 Chinese characters took four to five minutes, but DeepSeek's model accomplishes this in seconds, according to a report on the Longgang government website.

DeepSeek's models are also being used in conjunction with the district's 230,000 surveillance cameras to streamline searches for missing persons and analyze citizen feedback, enabling the government to quickly identify and address key concerns.

The adoption of DeepSeek's AI models by local governments comes amid a nationwide frenzy around the start-up, which has been hailed as a symbol of China's resilience against US efforts to curb its AI progress. Major cloud service providers and China's three major telecom operators—China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom—are integrating DeepSeek's models into their services.

While many local governments have already implemented "smart city" solutions using AI, DeepSeek's models are taking these applications to new heights. For example, the government of Kunshan, Jiangsu province, recently announced it had integrated DeepSeek models into its e-government system, allowing various agencies to explore local applications. The police are using DeepSeek models to mine large volumes of data for clues, while the transport authority is implementing them to better predict traffic flows.
