Drugs with Inhibitory effects found


Chinese researchers have found three existing drugs with fairly good inhibitory effects on the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) at the cellular level, a local newspaper has reported.


The three drugs are Remdesivir, Chloroquine and Ritonavir. They are now under relevant procedures to gain approval for clinical use, said Hubei Daily on Wednesday.


The discovery was jointly made by researchers from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences and the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).



Three Foreigners Infected


[China Daily] a Pakistani and two Australians have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus in Guangdong province. All of whom have been hospitalized and are in stable condition.


The Pakistani was studying at a university in Wuhan, Hubei province before traveling to Shenzhen in Guangdong on Jan 21 and Guangzhou in Guangdong on Jan 24, and fell ill on Jan 26, deputy director of provincial health commission Chen Zhusheng said at a press conference on Wednesday.


Two Australians were traveling in Wuhan before coming to Guangdong and falling ill, Chen said. They are being treated in Shenzhen. 


Malaysian Flight Isolated in Tianjin

A total of 16 Malaysians and Bolivians passengers from a flight with two confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, are under isolation and observation in a hotel in Dongli district, Tianjin.


They were passengers from the Malindo Air Flight Number OD688 from Sabah, Malaysia, which arrived in Tianjin on Jan 25.


The first case on the flight, confirmed on Jan 26, was a person aged 71 from Wuhan, the epicenter of the epidemic, who had traveled to Malaysia from Jan 19-25.

 

Viral Outbreak Reach Peak in 7-10 days



The novel coronavirus outbreak may reach its peak in one week or around 10 days, said renowned Chinese respiratory expert Zhong Nanshan.


"It is very hard to say for sure when the outbreak will reach its peak, yet I think it can reach its climax in one week or about 10 days and then there will not be large-scale increases," Zhong said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday.

 

Wuhan Nurse Cured

Guo Qin, a 38-year-old nurse working at the emergency center at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, returned to her post on Tuesday after 14 days of quarantine for testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

 

"My experience shows the disease is not so scary. It can be cured," Guo said after returning to work.

 

Coronavirus Lab-Version Developed


A team of scientists in Australia said Wednesday they had successfully developed a lab-grown version of the coronavirus that may help efforts to diagnose and treat the disease. However, the CEO of Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis said Wednesday it will take at least a year to find a vaccine.


The laboratory-grown virus is expected to be used to generate an antibody test, which allows detection of the virus in patients who have not yet displayed any symptoms.

[CGTN] The number of passenger trips made by railway, highway, waterway and civil aviation in China totaled 16.267 million on January 27, the third day of the lunar new year, down 68.3 percent from the same day last year following the Chinese lunar calendar, according to China's Ministry of Transport (MOT).


That number includes 3.463 million railway trips, 11.46 million road trips, 283,700 boat trips and 1.06 million air trips, seeing an overall decline.


 

Women's Football Team Quarantined


[BBC] The China women's football team are being held in quarantine in Australia over concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.


Queensland's chief health officer confirmed the state had its first case of the virus on Wednesday.


The Chinese team, who arrived in Brisbane for Olympic qualifiers, have been asked to remain in their hotel rooms until 5 February.
