After following the Coronavirus I have noticed that there has not been much helpful advice on how to tackle a virus. I wanted to create a video to help you feel less stressed, more aware and give you a better understanding on how best to fight off a virus.
2 years ago I actually was off work for 6 weeks with a virus. It was such a scary experience for me that I researched everything I could to help boost myself so that it never happens again. These findings are what I want to share with you today. I do hope you find them helpful and please share with anyone you think will benefit.
1. Boost your immune system
Your immune system releases white blood cells and other chemicals to attack any virus. The stronger your immune system the easier it will be for you to fight a virus. 80% of your immune system is in your gut so the key to a great immune system must start with improving your gut health
Quick tips:
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
- Exercise for 15 minutes minimum per day
- Take a daily probiotic
- Avoid alcohol
2. Alkalise your blood
Your blood is the river that carries oxygen to your cells for energy production. Anything that damages the health of your blood or red blood cells carrying oxygen saps you of energy and must be avoided. When your blood is acidic it clogs up and your cells cannot flow as smoothly. The way to counteract this is to maintain an 80% alkaline and 20% acid diet.
Quick tips:
- Eat more vegetables and fruits
- Eat more nuts, tofu and salads
- Avoid processed food
- Avoid animal protein
3. COLD SHOWERS
Cold and warm showers causes your blood vessels to constrict and dilate, which strengthens your immune system. This helps to increase the number of your white blood cells circulating through your body as well!
Quick tips:
- start with a warm shower
- turn it cold for 30 seconds and back to warm
- Repeat this 3 times to help boost your immune system
4. Have more sleep
Sleep is of fundamental importance to help us recover especially when fighting a virus. We must let our bodies rest to help with a better response to any threat.
Quick tips:
- Exercise for 15 minutes everyday
- Have a set sleep schedule
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol
- Dont eat 2-3 hours before bed
- Have a stress free evening routine
5. Avoid these types of food
DAIRY
Dairy, especially cheese is the most acid forming of foods negatively influencing the PH of your blood. It also contains huge amounts of phosphorus that inhibits the absorption of protein so you cant properly digest what you eat.
GLUTEN/WHEAT
Gluten is a protein found in many grains such as rye, barley and wheat. Research has now shown us that it is linked with many autoimmune diseases.
CAFFEINE / COFFEE
Coffee is pure acid. It is 5.1 on the PH scale, which creates an imbalance in the PH of your blood which negatively affects all of your cells.
ANIMAL PROTEIN
Animal protein is all acid forming, meaning that it has a negative impact on your blood PH. It is incredibly difficult for your body to digest so despite any nutrients they offer, we waste a huge amount of energy in the digestion process meaning you have less energy to fight off a virus
ALCOHOL
Impairs the body's ability to fight off viral infection and can worsen the effects of a virus. Avoid!
FRIED FOOD
Fried foods contain Trans fats. These are created when unsaturated fats undergo a process called hydrogenation. Companies will use these to extend the shelf life of food. The issue that arises is that this process causes a change in the chemical structure of the fats making them more difficult for your body to digest.
MERCURY
BE AWARE OF THESE HIGH RISK FISH: King mackerel, marlin, shark, swordfish, sea bass, tilefish, ahi tuna, and bigeye tuna all contain high levels of mercury.
Mercury has many adverse side effects including: memory problems, depression, breathing issues, impaired motor skills, cardiovascular risks, muscle weakness to name a few.
6. Get some sun
Sunlight boosts the immune response and also raises beneficial hormones that will help you feel better. 15 minutes in the sun gives you enough vitamin D for the day. If you cant get this then take a vitamin D supplement
- 15 mins of sun per day
- take a vitamin D supplement
7. Drink more water
Drink more water to help flush toxins out of your body. 4 litres per day is what I aim for!
- 500ml of water when you wake up
- drink at a minimum 1 litre of water for every 50 pounds you weigh
8. Keep hands clean & wear a mask
Make sure to wash your hands with soap or alcohol to kill of the germs and bacteria.
Quick Tips
- wash hands using soap or alcohol
- wear a mask outside
9.Positive emotions
When stressed your body can break down more easily as you are in a fight of flight response. You need to do to relax yourself during this period and allow yourself to remain positive.
Quick tips:
- Think of 3 things you are grateful for
- Do something that makes you happy
- Meditate for 10 minutes everyday
10. Activate your lymph system
You have 3 x more lymph than you do blood in your body! Lymph is used to help clear out the waste from cells and lymph nodes are also filters for your immune system. We must activate the lymph system regularly to stay healthy
Quick tips:
- Jump on a rebounder for 10 minutes everyday
- Get a massage
- 15 minutes of exercise everyday
- Drink lots of water
- Eat a healthy diet of food (vegetables are key!)
