China's Forbidden City declares closure

China's Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, has decided to stop admitting visitors from Jan. 25 in an effort to prevent cross-infection and curb the spreading of the novel coronavirus-related pneumonia.

It will notify the public when there is a resumption date, the Palace Museum said in a statement late Thursday.

Multiple major public venues, including the National Museum of China, the National Library of China, the National Art Museum of China and Prince Kung's Mansion, have taken similar measures to contain the virus.

China allocates 1 billion yuan for coronavirus control


China's Finance Ministry has allocated a total of 1 billion yuan to support Hubei Province's battle against a deadly novel coronavirus.


This is the latest move in China to control the outbreak of the novel coronavirus-related pneumonia.

China waives fees for all transportation ticket cancellations nationwide


China's transport departments will allow passengers to cancel their tickets of all transportation means nationwide without charging fees.


The decision was made by the Ministry of Transport (MOT), China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.


The measure went into effect from Friday, as part of the efforts to control the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, said the MOT.


Under the policy, passengers who have previously purchased train tickets at railway stations, online railway ticket-booking platforms or other channels may cancel their tickets and get refunds for free.


This policy now also applies to airlines, long-distance coach services and waterway transport, with all fees waived for ticket cancellations.

The purchases of accident insurance shall be handled together, according to the departments.



Nationwide, a total of 25 people had died of the viral pneumonia and 830 cases were confirmed in 29 provincial-level regions by the end of Wednesday, January 23.
