Chinese New Year Celebration Customs - FULL GUIDE Part 1

As per the Chinese tradition, the Nian celebration lasts for 23 days! Which means? It starts from today, January 17th, AKA the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month until February 8th, the 15th day of the 1st month of Chinese calendar.


No doubt, it is surprisingly long, and the amazing part is that each day there is some unique celebration of the day! Lets take a look!


Day 1. , xio nin, l yu r sh sn, the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month. January 17th, 2020


Today people will offer tng gu to the malt sugar candies to the Kitchen God.


Day 2. l yu r sh s, the 24th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 18th, 2020


On the day each family will clean the house thoroughly.


Day 3. l yu r sh w, the 25th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 19th, 2020


On the day, people will make Tofu, which also means welcoming happiness and a good harvest in the new year.


Day 4. l yu r sh li, the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 20th, 2020


This day people will go to market to get some meat to prepare for the new year.


Day 5. l yu r sh qthe 27th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 21st, 2020


On the 27th of the twelfth lunar month, people prepare all the ingredients and food they need for the feast. Chicken is a must.


Day 6. l yu r sh bthe 28th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 22nd, 2020


On this day, in addition to preparing food, another important task has to be done: to paste spring couplets.


Day 7. l yu r sh ji, the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 23rd, 2020


On the 29th, Chinese people will get the rice wine ready, as well as have a ceremony to worship ancestors and express gratitude.


Day 8. , ch x, d nin sn sh, the New Year's Eve, the 30th day of the twelfth lunar month. January 24th, 2020


The Chinese New Year's Eve is definitely the biggest day of the year. Families will get together no matter how far they have to travel back nor how expensive the tickets are as nothing is more important than reunion after a years hard work. People will eat and drink freely, watch TV show together, or play mahjong. Anyway, they will stay up to welcome the new year.


Day 9. d nin ch y, the first day of the Chinese New Year, January 25th 2020.


A day for people to visit relatives and close friends.


Day 10. d nin ch rthe 2nd day of the Chinese New Year, January 26th 2020.


On the day, married daughters usually go back to visit their parents, relatives and close friends. In the past, women do not have much opportunity to visit their original families throughout the year, as after getting the married, daughters are considered as outsiders and no longer belong to their original family.


Day 11. d nin ch snthe 3rd day of the Chinese New Year, January 27th 2020.


The 3rd day is themed as losh q qn the Rat Marriage Day, and people will restrict night activities in order to give rats time for their wedding. Actually, it is considered an unlucky day to have guests or go visiting. People will go to rest earlier at night and get up late in the morning. In some regions, people also avoid using scissors on the day as they believe cutting things on this very day will bring misfortune such as bickering, quarrels or disputes to the new year.
