JZ Club Has Opened Huge New Jazz Space in Shanghai

By Bryan Grogan

JZ Live is up and running. The huge new venue, which comes from the folks behind JZ Club, combines a live space, a restaurant, space for workshops and classes and a jazz lounge is located out in Minhang district, just a short walk from Hongqiao Railway Station, and is set over an area of 1,000 square meters.

Its the latest jazz opening in Shanghai, a city that seems to know no end to its appetite for the urbane genre of music. You can now catch performances at JZ Live, although workshops have yet to begin and the record shop at the venue has yet to open, although visitors can drop in for a spot of lunch. A representative of JZ Club told us to expect those aspects of the new venue to open near the end of December.

As a small sampler of what one can expect from performances at JZ Live right now, NEO-Happiness Group (formerly Little Happiness Group), Voixin Xis excellent jazz band played on Wednesday this week, while visitors can snag the chance to catch Coco Zhao and Possicobilities on Saturday night (that event is free entry).

The concept behind JZ Live reminds us a bit of Midis equally massive venue in Shenzhens outer Longgang district. While that venue also boasts classes, a huge venue and amenities for musicians and producers alike, it hasnt really taken off (on the performance end of things at least).
