Get Ready! S.Pellegrino Young Chef Competition is Tomorrow


Today, the impact of gastronomy is being felt way beyond the kitchen. Those at the cutting edge of the industry are pioneering its use as a device for social impact and change. 


As a long-term partner of the greatest minds in culinary excellence, S.Pellegrino truly believes in the transformative power of gastronomy.


S.Pellegrino champions the idea that gastronomy can transform society and push a continuous evolution. But in order to evolve, it needs talents to shape the future. 


Talent should not to be taken for granted, which is why S.Pellegrino aims to nurture an ecosystem to improve gastronomy and drive change. 


The annual S.Pellegrino Young Chef competition helps discover and promote young talents to shape the future of gastronomy. Now in its fourth edition, the competition gives young chefs the courage to chase their dreams and realize their potential.



Five experienced chefs will form the jury to evaluate contenders dishes according the following criteria: 


1. Technical Skill

Ability to select the finest ingredients in terms of quality, freshness and uniqueness, to obtain an excellent taste, combined with technical skills which bring out the flavors of the ingredients, while maintaining their original essence.


2. Creativity

Ability to explore original, stimulating and innovative perspectives with a personal and contemporary style, while maintaining a perfect balance between the flavor and aesthetic appearance.  


3. Personal Belief

Ability to communicate a clear message summarizing the vision of work, for example, how it contributes to modern society and pertains to their overall vision of the world of food.


Judges will score 10 contenders according to the above criteria to select the winner of the S.Pellegrino Young Chef award.



For the first time in competition history, there will also three additional awards handed out at this years event. These awards aim to give a voice and platform to each of the young chefs by recognizing these contenders for their unique approaches to gastronomy.



The three new awards are as follows: 


Fine Dining Lovers Food for Thoughts Award

Voted for online by the fine dining lovers community, this award will be presented to the young chef who best represents his or her personal belief within their dish. 


S.Pellegrino Award for Social Responsibility

Chosen by an internationally-recognized voice on sustainability in food, this award will be given to the contender whose cuisine represents the principle that food is best when it adheres to socially responsible practices. 


Acqua Panna Award for Connection in Gastronomy

Selected by a group of mentors representing 50 countries around the world, this award will be handed to the finalist who prepares a dish that best reflects the connection between different cultures on a single plate, thus celebrating a global approach to gastronomy.




The Contenders




About the Event

The S.Pellegrino Young Chef Competition will take place on November 21, 2019 at the Bellagio Shanghai and comprises two parts: competition and gala dinner. 


Each contender will have five hours to cook and 10 minutes to present their signature dish.


During the gala dinner, the champion will be announced, along with the winners of the three new awards. Moreover, 120 limited edition bottles will be exhibited during the dinner to commemorate the 120-year anniversary of S. Pelligrino.
