Why Do Children Bring Green Onions to School in China?

September is in full swing, and you know what that means School is starting again!

And while kids may not be all too thrilled to go back to class, parents are like:

A few days ago, on August 31, someone took a picture of a young child carrying something quite peculiar in his backpack.

This was taken at the gate of a school in Jingjiang of Jiangsu province.

While most kids usually bring a handful of sharpies to their first day back in school, this one stood out from the crowd with green onions!

Why would a child bring green onions to school? Cooking class?

As it turns out, it is common for parents to send their kids to school with cng (green onions) inside their backpacks for wisdom (cng mng), placing high hopes in their children to strive for good grades and a better future.

But this child isnt alone. Two young girls were spotted with green onions duck taped to their school bags at a primary school in Jiangsu province.

But wait, theres more!

Some children bring an entire farm with them - including apples png gu (meaning png n "safe and sound") and other raw ingredients.

These photos went viral, catching the attention of many netizens who found this rather hilarious.

But regardless of what you bring to school - green onions or no green onions - you wont have a better future unless you put in the work.

Studying and working towards the goals you want to achieve in life, with the love of your parents supporting you all the way :) Thats how youll get there.
