Careful! Using the Peace Sign in Your Photos May Expose Your...

Many of us are guilty of using the peace sign as a cool way of posing for photos, am I right?

But did it ever occur to you that doing it can reveal your fingerprint information?

Cybersecurity Publicity Week Expo launched earlier this week in Shanghai and gave attendants a chilling look at how safe (or not) we really are with the rise of new emerging technologies.

If the camera is close enough to take a picture of your hands and fingers, the photo with our beloved peace sign  can be reproduced using a combination of magnified images and artificial intelligence.

The deputy director of the Shanghai Information Security Industry Association shared that while people may not think of it as anything more than a fun sign to use in photos, that very sign is like an open passport to your identity information.

Once collected, your fingerprint can be extracted and transformed into fingerprint membranes by professional identity thieves using advanced technology. This can help to activate automatic door locks, confirm payments, and anything else that uses your fingerprint to confirm your identity.

Many Chinese netizens panicked upon hearing this shocking news, some of whom argued that flipping their hands upside down can solve the scissor hand problem so they dont show their fingerprints on camera.

But regardless of this pressing identity threat, many online users were left unalarmed because

These apps make everything, including your skin, look so smooth that your fingerprint would be very hard to identify through your filter.

So with that in mind.

Do you use any particular hand gestures or motions in your photos?

Have you been using the peace/scissor hand sign in your photos after moving to China?

Personally, I go for either the peace sign or use both my hands to hold my face and chin.
