At 2:40PM on September 19th, a local newspaper in Hangzhou received a reader's phone call, which stated a car accident occurred at the entrance of a market in Xihu District, where a man was badly injured.

How Serious?

After arriving at the scene, the news staff learned from the caller, that the incident happened at around 2:15PM. The incident involved a foreign man, who was getting out of a taxi.

When the foreigner opened the door of the car, a 29-year-old man named Lu, was riding by on an electric scooter. Unfortunately, Lu collided with the car door, and was ejected off of his scooter, and landed 7 meters away. The caller rushed to him, and saw that his head was covered with blood, and he was breathing heavily.

Seeing this, the caller called an ambulance and Lu was taken to the hospital.

The big circle is where Lu landed on the ground; the small circle is where Lu hit the Taxi door.

At 4PM that day, the news staff saw Lu's father and pregnant wife at the hospital. Both were waiting next to the door of the emergency room, and were in tears, especially as Lu's wife was due to give birth to a baby next month. It was understood that Lu was in a critical situation, as he suffered a brain injury, resulting in a coma, and was to receive a craniotomy.

Per the witness, the accident happened almost instantly, as Lu was riding fast, and the door was being opened.

At this time, no further information has been provided.

Not a Rare Occurence

Data shows that the incident isn't rare in China. Traffic Cameras have recorded similar incidents involving vehicular accidents as people open/close their doors. One can't be too careful when acting in heavy traffic...
