Q1

Where did you get the policy that the residence permit must be cancelled?

A: AnyVisa received the information from the Shanghai Entry and Exit Administration.

Q2

I don't plan to stay in China after graduation, but may come to China in the future. In this case, do I still need to cancel my residence permit for study?

A: Yes.

If you don't cancel it, you will have a bad record, which might not affect you at the moment. But if you want to apply for a work visa again in China, this bad record will get in your way.

The worst-case scenario is that your application will be directly rejected . A better situation is that you have to renew the work visa every year even if you have successfully applied for it. Those with clean records can apply for a five-year work visa after working in China for 2 years without any issues.

Q3

My friend did not cancel his residence permit, but also obtained other visas successfully. Is he required to cancel it?

A: It's required.

If your friend is in Shanghai, he might be able to get another visa if he accepts the consequences and keeps the bad records. AnyVisa strongly recommends that you cancel your residence permit within 10 days after you graduated. If it's over 10 days, AnyVisa can help with the cancellation.

Here is another situation: If your friend is not in Shanghai and wants to apply for an entrepreneur visa, he has to leave China and enter the country with another type of visa. This process is time consuming and can increase your financial burden.

Q4

I'm not in Shanghai. Can AnyVisa help me cancel my residence permit?

Yes, we can assist you with the cancellation remotely. Unfortunately, AnyVisa can only send representatives to accompany you in the Shanghai area.

AnyVisa reminds you again that you should cancel your residence permit after graduation. Don't think this process is complicated or meaningless. If you have a bad record and need to apply for a new visa, it's too late when you're in a real trouble.
