Now that its officially operating, lets see how everything unraveled on opening day in Shanghai's Minhang district.
Things got quite overwhelming, to say the least
Waiting for parking alone took three hours!
Crowds and traffic were all congested throughout the morning. To give you a better idea, it took over 30 minutes to drive no more than 300 meters.
Think youre off the hook once your car is parked? Think again Waiting in line to get inside was no different.
The craziest part is that this all happened on a Tuesday! A work day! How could there be so many people?
Checkout took well over an hour.
Call it a success or massive planning failure, but crowds got so overwhelming that Costco officially announced it would close its doors for the whole afternoon of the 27th.
At Costco, prices for non-food items are 30 to 60 percent below market prices, while for food items, 10 to 20 percent below market prices are to be expected as reported by company spokespersons.
Well, once the Chinese got a whiff of this, no wonder they all took a day off to rush over to buy in bulk!
The Minhang public security bureau went as far as closing parts of the road in the afternoon to control traffic movement.
Overall, the majority of consumer feedback is that the store still has a lot of affordable products.
