According to a report released on July 23 by the Shunde District Health Bureau, the district has recorded 2,934 confirmed cases, concentrated in Lecong, Beijiao, and Chencun towns. All cases have been classified as mild.

In Chancheng District, the Health Bureau reported 147 cases as of July 22, primarily in Shiwanzhen, Zhangcha, and Zumiao subdistricts, all of which were also mild cases. Nanhai District followed with 107 cases concentrated in Guicheng subdistrict. Sanshui District reported 5 cases localized in Xinan and Yundonghai subdistricts, while Gaoming District recorded a single case in Hecheng subdistrict as of July 20.

In a community mobilization effort, the village committee of Xin Village in Beijiao Town issued a notice urging all residents to light mosquito coils in their homes at 6:00 PM on July 23. The committee also scheduled simultaneous outdoor disinfection. Residents were encouraged to eliminate stagnant water, install intact mosquito screens, and use mosquito repellents like coils, electric mats, or insecticides to prevent further spread.

The outbreak has also extended beyond Guangdong. On July 18, Macau authorities confirmed the region's first imported chikungunya case of the year. The patient, a 61-year-old man from Macau, visited relatives in Shunde between July 8 and 17. He developed symptoms including fever, headache, and muscle pain on the morning of July 17 and returned to Macau the same day.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) warned that chikungunya fever, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, poses a high risk for interregional spread due to heavy population and goods flow across cities in the Pearl River Delta. It emphasized early detection and treatment, data sharing across regions, and joint surveillance mechanisms to curb transmission.

Researcher Duan Leilei of the China CDC stated at a national health commission press conference that chikungunya is preventable, controllable, and treatable, with no evidence of human-to-human transmission.
