2020 Tokyo Olympics Postponed to Next Year Due to Pandemic



Based on the current situation that has brought the world to a halt, Japan has proposed that the Tokyo Olympics be postponed until next year so that athletes from around the world can compete in the best conditions and spectators can watch the games in safety and security.



This decision was made following a phone call between the Japanese prime minister, Shinz Abe, and International Olympic Committee President, Thomas Bach.


The two sides agreed to host the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in the summer of 2021 at the latest.


The name of the games after the postponement will remain "Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.



Japan plans to host next years Tokyo Olympic Games and Paralympics in their "complete form as proof of mankind's victory over the novel coronavirus to be achieved by then.
