Biggest one-day increase


Central China's Hubei Province, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, reported 14,840 new cases (including 13,332 clinical cases) of infection on Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 48,206 in the province.


On Wednesday, 242 more deaths were reported in Hubei.


Youngest Patient, Recovered

Three-month-old Tiantian, the youngest victim of novel coronavirus pneumonia, has been cured and was discharged from Haikou People's Hospital in Haikou, capital Hainan province, on Tuesday.


The baby, whose real name is not Tiantian, is the seventh confirmed case in Hainan.

Tibet's Only Case, Recovered

Tibet's only confirmed patient infected with coronavirus was discharged Wednesday.


Recovery Rate Rose to 10.6%

The recovery rate from coronavirus infection in China rose from 1.3% on Jan 27 to 10.6% on Tuesday, leading to the discharge of more patients from hospitals.

Gaokao Postponement, Under Consideration

China's Ministry of Education is researching whether to postpone gaokao college entrance examinations amid coronavirus outbreak. 

Wartime Control Measure in Zhangwan

Wartime control measures are implemented in Zhangwan district in Shiyan, Hubei Province, starting from Thursday, which means all buildings will be fully closed in the next 14 days. Whether the controls will lift ahead or continue depends on the epidemic prevention effect.

New Semester, Online

Chinese students will be able to attend classes online or study via television as schools postpone the start of the new semester due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, education officials said on Wednesday.


The Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued a guideline for universities to organize online classes, with 22 online platforms offering 24,000 courses to students, said Wu Yan with the ministry at a press conference, reported Xinhua news agency.

DBS Bank Send 300 Employees Home

The bank DBS on Wednesday cleared a downtown office in Singapore and told some 300 employees to work from home after one of its staff was infected with the new coronavirus.


39 More Infected Cases on Cruise Ship

An additional 39 people on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship off the coast of Japan have tested positive for the new coronavirus, Japanese Health Minister Katsunobu Kato said Wednesday. That brings the total number of infected patients onboard to 174.

India's Infected Case, Tests Negative

A male patient who arrived from Wuhan and later tested positive for coronavirus will be discharged on Thursday, after two tests have now turned negative, an Indian health official said.


The patient, who is quarantined at the Alappuzha Medical College, was the second person who turned up positive in the test.

Two Russians Flee Virus Quarantine

A Russian woman has escaped from a St. Petersburg hospital after just two days of mandatory quarantine and isolation following her return from China. The woman went for a check-up with a sore throat after returning recently from China. She said she tested negative for the new coronavirus, but doctors insisted on a 14-day quarantine. The strict measure is being enforced for anyone returning from China to Russia.  


The hospital later reported her unauthorized departure to police, but she has told reporters no one has tried to bring her back to the hospital.


Earlier this month, another quarantined Russian woman fled a hospital with her son in the southern city of Samara. They jumped out of a window after a few days of quarantine. While hospitalized, she found out she was pregnant and said she didn't feel safe among other quarantined people who had been in China.

Chinese Grand Prix, Postponed

Formula One's Chinese Grand Prix has been postponed due to the recent outbreak of coronavirus in the country, the organisers said today.


The FIA and Formula One said in a statement that they had jointly decided to postpone the race, which was scheduled for April 19 at the Shanghai International Circuit.

World's Biggest Tech Trade, Canceled

This year's Mobile World Congress, the world's largest technology trade show, has been canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. 


The Global System for Mobile Communications Association, or GSMA, has held the annual trade show in Barcelona, Spain, since 2006. GSMA CEO John Hoffman announced the association's decision to cancel this year's show in a press release on Wednesday, saying it would reconvene in 2021. 

Airbnb suspended until April 30

Airbnb Inc. has extended a freeze on all Beijing business by two months, heeding tightened local regulations aimed at curbing the coronavirus epidemic.


Its suspending check-ins at all of its listings in the Chinese capital until April 30, instead of the end of February, the San Francisco-based company said in a messaged statement. The US startup has offered refunds to those affected or that cancel their bookings.
