Tibet Offers Free Entry for Winter Tourist Season Until March

The ancient Potala Palace in Lhasa, the Tibet autonomous region, attracts thousands of tourists and pilgrims every year, and they have to make reservations a few days in advance to get a ticket, especially during the peak summer season.

The ticket price of Potala Palace is 200 yuan during peak season from May 1 to Oct 31, and 100 yuan for the winter from Nov 1 to April 30, according to the official website of the administrative office.

Now tourists can book a ticket for free on the very day when they visit the World Heritage site Potala Palace in Lhasa, capital of Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region until March 15, 2020 according to a notice from the palace's administrative office.

The notice said that this visitor-friendly policy is part of the region's third round of promoting winter tourism.

The region saw more than 13 million domestic and overseas tourists in the first half of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent, and its travel revenue hit 14.93 billion yuan, up 19.8 percent year-on-year.
