China Shows New AI Tools for Future Policing

China is developing new artificial-intelligence tools that could shape the future of policing, according to companies at a major police equipment exhibition in Beijing.

The tools are designed to help officers detect the use of apps like Telegram, identify VPN activity, and analyse large amounts of data more quickly.

These technologies were displayed at the 12th China International Exhibition on Police Equipment, the biggest event of its kind in the country. The exhibition brought together police technology suppliers, research institutes, and public security departments from across China.

Companies competed to show their newest products and win future contracts.

One institute presented a system that can spot when people use VPNs or connect to Telegram, even if the accounts are tied to Chinese phone numbers.

Other companies introduced AI systems inspired by large-language models, which can help police process evidence, search for leads, review images, and find patterns that would normally take much longer to identify.

Exhibitors said these tools are designed to make police work faster and more efficient, especially as they deal with more digital information every year. The expo showed China's push to modernise its policing methods by combining traditional equipment with advanced technology.

Overall, the event highlighted how AI is becoming a central part of China's future public-security strategy, with a focus on improving investigations, data analysis, and digital monitoring capabilities.
