Source: Bangkok Post, Investing

China has announced further updates to allow some foreign businessmen to return, as well as more foreign students.

China Starts Process to Begin Allowing More Foreign Businesspeople to Return

The Chinese Embassy in Kabul is preparing to issue visas to Afghan businessmen, Beijing's envoy to Afghanistan has confirmed.

The confirmation came during talks between Wang Yu, the Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, and the Taliban's acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi here, reports Khaama Press.

In a tweet on Sunday, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, said the two sides discussed earthquake relief, political issues, bilateral trade, humanitarian aid and the repatriation of Afghan students to China.

At the meeting, Muttaqi called on the Chinese Ambassador to expedite the process of issuing Chinese visas to Afghan businessmen to which the envoy said that they were getting ready to start the procedure.

More Foreign Students Successfully Return

China is gradually allowing more students from Asian nations to return, over two years after closing its borders to most foreigners under a strict zero-Covid strategy. However, it is not clear when those from the West can also come back.

A group of 164 Sri Lankan medical students was the latest to arrive back in China, landing in Tianjin on Friday after being locked out by the coronavirus pandemic since early 2020.

Tweeting about their arrival on a "special" Sri Lankan Airlines chartered flight, the Chinese embassy said it would continue to work closely with authorities [in both countries] to help more students "return to their universities as soon as possible".

For other students, some more info has come to light as well. India and China have discussed the return of thousands of Indian students stranded at home for two years due to Beijings COVID-19 bans and resumption of direct flights disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian embassy here said on Thursday.

China, in recent months, began permitting some foreign students to return to the country.

On June 20, the first batch of 90 Pakistani students, stuck back home for about two years due to Chinas strict visa restrictions, arrived in the Chinese city of Xian.

They are part of 250 Pakistani students China has agreed to permit to return based on their requirements while thousands more are awaiting Beijings nod, according to the media reports from Pakistan.
