Anyang City in Henan province announced on the 10th that, the 2 positive cases detected on the 8th were confirmed with the BA.1 branch of the Omicron variant strain, which belonged to the same transmission chain as the current epidemic in Tianjin.
Combined with the results of epidemiological investigation and gene sequencing, the source of infection of this outbreak in Anyang City is basically identified as a college student who returned to Tangyin County (located in Anyang City) from Tianjin on December 28, 2021.
On January 8th, 9 people from a same school in Tangyin County tested positive. The local authority immediately organized the first round of nucleic acid testing for all the residents in the county. A total of 388,396 nucleic acid samples were collected. At present, the second round of testing has also been carried out.
All 3,335 elementary, secondary and vocational education schools in Anyang city have been closed and turned to online teaching.
On January 10, Anyang City issued a notice requiring all residents in the urban areas and in Tangyin County to isolate themselves at home, no one should go out except for nucleic acid testing and other epidemic prevention reason. No motor vehicles in the city are allowed to be on the road (except military vehicles, police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, etc.). All business activities are to be suspended. Those that cannot be closed due to safety production or livelihood need, etc., will be operated in isolated condition and and staff members are not allowed to go out.
Tianjin: 31+1, city faces most Omicron cases in China
Since January 8, a local outbreak of the Omicron mutant strain has occurred in Tianjin. A total of 31 positive cases and 10 asymptomatic cases have been reported in the city.
Tianjin has become the city that with the most local confirmed cases of Omicron variant in China so far.
On the evening of the 10th, Zhang Ying, deputy director of the Tianjin Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said in an interview that according to the current transmission chain, the virus is expected to spread in Tianjin for 15-21 days already. During the current epidemiological investigation, the source of the omicron epidemic in Tianjin is not yet clear, and it is difficult to identify it in short time.
Tianjin has issued a notice requiring all residents not to leave the city unless necessary. Those who do need to leave should present negative nucleic acid testing certificates within 48 hours and green health code. Approval letters from communities or authorities in charge will also be requested.
Tianjin will especially strictly control the travel access to Beijing.
Wuxi, Jiangsu - The first Omicron variant imported case detected
On January 10, Wuxi reported an Omicron variant positive case for the first time. The case came from Australia to Shanghai on January 5, and was transferred to Wuxi after a 3-day centralized quarantine in Shanghai. The case is currently being treated in isolation in a designated hospital in Wuxi City.
