The story of an asymptomatic carrier of COVID-19 reported in Beijing on Wednesday deeply touched Chinese netizens for his arduous life transporting decoration and construction materials, to as many as 31 sites across the capital since January 1, to make a living.
The infected person was identified as an asymptomatic carrier after he took a nucleic acid test on Monday, the day before his train to Weihai, in East China's Shandong Province. The patient was transferred on Tuesday to a designated hospital for treatment.
The patient lives in Beijing's Chaoyang district and works day and night at different construction sites in multiple districts across the city. The epidemiological survey showed that the asymptomatic patient often worked till midnight.
The story soon went viral on the internet with many netizens commenting that it was the saddest epidemiological survey that has ever been released, and that the man was finally obliged to take a rest for the COVID-19 treatment, although he cannot make money during that time.
The reason for the asymptomatic patient to do part-time jobs at different sites was to look for his abducted son.
He was a sailor from Weihai in Shandong Province. It was on 20 August 2020 that his eldest son went missing. His son has worked in Beijing before, so he came to the city to continue his search. His previous searching covered Shandong province, Henan province and Hebei province. Whenever he went to a new place, he had to get a job to support his living and searching.
