Can't Believe It! 2 Employees in Medical Fields...

Two employees in the medical field were fined 500 yuan (US$77) each for publicly releasing the personal information of coronavirus patients and their close contacts, the government of Putian in Fujian Province, a recent hotspot of COVID-19 outbreak, said yesterday.

Private information leaked online includes their ID numbers, phone numbers, addresses, and recent whereabouts.

An investigation found that two people forwarded the information from their workplace chat groups to public chat groups.

The two people, both from Putian, admitted their wrongdoing, the statement said.

As big data dominates every part of people's life, every time when we take out our phones and scan a code, when we are amazed by the automatically popped-out information, we can't help but wonder, is it really that safe?

A gradually transparent environment is just like a coin with 2 sides. At the same time it brought us convenience in this Post-COVID world, it could put us in danger of information leak.

Doubts did not make us conspiracy theorists, it's what relevant people did that changed our minds. Can we trust our private information anymore with these workers that we have never met and will never do so? Does ethics really work in such fields?

We think a deeper and wider reform is required in medical institutions. We could never completely cut off the internet connections. So after these 2 workers get simply punished for what they did, what we should consider is that in which direction is the field going to ensure further security? And how could relevant departments supervise this?

Our readers, how do you think of this problem, and what can people do to protect privacy from both individual angles and authorities? Please leave us a comment, your opinion is highly valued!
