
Reason Released for Fatal Bear Attack in SH: Safety Violation

A digger driver and an animal keeper violated safety regulations by getting out of their vehicles blamed for a tragedyin which the animal keeper was attacked and killed by several bears at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park in October last year.
The "accident investigation report" was released by Pudong New Area Emergency Management Bureau at the end of last year. The incident occurred when an excavator driver illegally got out of the car to check the condition of the car, the breeder in distress found after the violation to get out of the car to remind when attacked by the bears.
The driver surnamed Xu left the digger to check equipment following an operation failure, while the animal keeper surnamed Zhu who was monitoring the situation left his vehicle to remind Xu to return to the digger, according to a recently released report by emergency management authorities in the Pudong New Area.
Nine people including the park's general manager will receive administrative punishment.
The park has adjusted its tour routes.
On Feb.18th, a journalist learned from the Shanghai Safari Park that the mammoth area has been reopened, brown bears and other mammoth animals such as tigers and lions, have been placed in closed places for visitors to visit.
