Source: OT-Team(AFJ)

On November 18, 2020, according to the National Meteorological Center, five provinces in northern China, namely Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia and Hebei, issued a blue alert for the heavy snowstorm; meanwhile, rainstorm would strike some areas in more than 11 provinces/cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shaanxi, Chongqing and Sichuan, and parts of the above ranges would encounter thunderstorms and gales.

Per the National Meteorological Center, China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Blizzard Weather in Over 5 Provinces

According to the meteorological monitoring, from November 17 to 19, Northeast and Northwest China, including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang, ushered in a large-scale heavy snow and cooling weather, with snowfall reaching 20-29 mm. However, since the evening of the 19th, the scope of rain and snow has gradually narrowed, with heavy snow in Southeast Inner Mongolia, Southeast Heilongjiang, Western and Northern Jilin and Northwest Liaoning.

Therefore, the China Meteorological Administration requires all the local government and relevant departments to carry out emergency work to prevent snowstorms and frost damage. While the departments of traffic, railways, electricity and telecommunications should also strengthen inspection and maintenance, and all local residents should avoid unessential outdoor activities.

A Hint of Heavy Rainstorms in 14 Provinces/Cities

As per the National Meteorological Center, Southern China will also usher in a large-scale rainfall due to the cold air coming from the North.

From November 19 to November 20, heavy rainstorms will occur in 14 provinces/cities in China, including Jilin, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Yunnan, while Zhejiang, Jiangxi provinces as well as Hunan and Fujian provinces will be battered by downpours, with rainfall of more than 100 mm.

BIG Temperature Drop Across China

Besides, in terms of temperature, China has begun to cool down. On November 18, temperatures began to drop sharply in Northeast China and North China. In some cities, including Harbin, Changchun and Shenyang, the highest temperature dropped to zero, and the temperature will hit a new low since the second half of 2020.

In Southern China, temperatures will fall more slowly, and at a later date. Starting from the 19th, the cold air will arrive in Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, where the temperature drop will last for 4-5 days, with a common cooling range of 4-12.

According to the China Meteorological Administration, all residents in China are reminded to do a good job in cold prevention and warm keeping, to avoid getting cold during the epidemic of COVID-19!
